Hair Loss

ABOUT THE HAIR

The Hair Phases

The best start to preventing hair loss is understanding the basics of hair: what it is, how it grows, what system malfunctions can cause it to stop growing. And this we will cover the bases for you.

Hair is the fastest growing tissue of the body, made up of proteins called keratins. Every strand of hair is made up of three layers: the inner layer or medulla (only present in thick hairs); the middle layer or cortex, which determines the strength, texture, and color of hair; and the cuticle, which protects the cortex.

Hair grows from roots, which are enclosed in follicles.

The layer of skin called the dermal papilla, which is fed by the bloodstream carrying nourishment vital to the growth of hair. Only the roots of hair are actually alive, while the visible part of hair is dead tissue, and therefore unable to heal itself. It is vital then to take care of the scalp and body in order to perpetuate hair growth and maintenance.

Reportedly only bone marrow grows faster in our body than hair does. The average scalp contains 100,000-
150,000 hair follicles and hairs, with 90% growing and 10% resting at any given time. Hair actually grows in
three stages: anagen, catagen, and telogen. The anagen phase is the phase where hair is actively
growing, and of course this phase is longer for follicles in the scalp than anywhere else on your body, and
lasts longer for women than men. It is natural for follicles to atrophy and hair to fall out, and this is called the
catagen phase. This phase is only temporary, and eventually the follicle enters the telogen phase where it
is resting.

These are the 10% at rest mentioned above.
Normal anagen phases last approximately five years, with catagen phases lasting about three weeks, and telogen phases lasting approximately 12 weeks. As you see it is natural to lose some hair. Natural hair loss is considered to be in the range of 100 hairs per day. It is not apparent to most people that hair is actually being lost until more than 50% of a person's hair is actually lost...

Understanding the DHT Factor and Blood Circulation

The most widely accepted theory of what causes Androgenetic Alopecia is the DHT factor. DHT is produced when the enzyme 5 alpha reductase combines with testosterone. DHT then attaches itself to the hair follicle eventually causing it to stop producing hair.

Picture a big boulder on your chest that will not let you stand up and it barely allows you to breath. It will make it nearly impossible for you to eat or do anything else. You may hold on for a while, but eventually you will go dormant.

This is what DHT does to your hair follicles.

  1.  It deprives them of food and oxygen.
  2. As the hair follicle weakens, the hair it produces will get thinner and thinner.
  3. Eventually, the hair follicle dies and stops producing hair altogether. When enough hair follicles goes dormant you begin to notice the thinning of your hair and even balding areas.

While we all produce DHT,and will make some of us much more susceptible to DHT.

In addition to this DHT factor there are other secondary factors that may also contribute to the hair loss. While they do not cause pattern baldness, they do affect how susceptible (weak) the hair follicle is to the effects of DHT.

By being aware of these additional factors, we can increase our ability to fight DHT and increase our chances of preventing and halting hair loss through the blocking of DHT.

Promotes Blood Circulation and Hair Growth

Lack of oxygen and blood flow to the scalp contributes to hair loss by weakening the hair follicle and making it more susceptible to the effects of DHT.

Good Blood flow is essential to the nourishment and growth of hair follicles.

Again when the hair root is well supplied with blood it is able to better withstand the "minimization" effects of DHT.As long as there is good blood supply to the scalp, hair loss can be prevented. The products we present in our range helps prevent or stop hair loss by helping to increase blood flow to even the smallest capillaries supplying the hair follicles. They also help to make blood circulation throughout the scalp more efficient.
